I can't believe he brought a date to his wife's funeral. That's horrible! Almost 90% of the people he beat up and killed in this movie are completely innocent of whatever he did. Plus him being a Yale professor, I mean wouldn't they fire him for not coming to work?

@classicgameplay10 yes it has some strict requirements at Yale. They require that you go on an international crime spree with the DEA and Hong Kong police. They also require that you have a questionable past involving smuggling things. It’s also totally understandable that your house got blown up and wife died and you bring this hot date to her funeral.

I’m just imagining the sort of internal dialogue Seagal must have had while writing that line. I imagine he thinks people are sitting around poking fun people who never crash airplanes like, “hahaha I’ve been flying planes for 40 years and had 20 crashes. You never had one! Do you want to live forever hahahaha.” And everyone giving him a hard time about it like he’s not in a special club or something. I imagine Seagal chuckled as he wrote that.

@samueldubik4418 everyone is all like yeah that happened to professor Smith last semester. It was sad he went on a international murder spree after staying in a Chinese prison for a couple of weeks.

@liamphillips4370 Yeah, it would apply to probably a vast majority of people who decide to fly a plane. I feel like this is a missed clue in the movie on how Seagal was able to pick up on the fact that he had something to do with his wife's death or whatever. As a Yale professor, he probably immediately knew something was up with a name as dumb as that. It's like meeting a drug dealer named OD cause he never did and you'd immediately get your suspicion radar going if something happened like your house burnt down suddenly. And even dumber the guy lets you in on lessons as a pilot knowing that he had a major role in his wife's death. Seagal probably thought, as a Yale professor, nobody can be that dumb.

I also imagine Seagal during interviews will be like, “yeah I’ve been in the aviation business for the last 35 years and everyone crashed at least dozens of times so this is very rare to meet someone who never crashed an airplane.”

Yeah the entire thing doesn't sound right at all. Maybe that's how Seagal knew he was up to something and had something to do with his wife's death. As a Yale professor, he probably was one step ahead of him knowing that with a ridiculous name like that, there's no way he isn't involved in something sinister.

@kosmique I think the best thing about under siege was that he looked the part and you knew who the bad guys were. Every other movie you have no idea if he’s the good guy or the bad guy.

I feel like that whole Crash dude scene was a missed clue in the movie. Right when he said, "They call me Crash because I never have" Seagal, as a Yale professor, knew right away that something was up with this dude and when his house blew up and his wife dead, he knew he had to go back to Crash. I feel like Crash, knowing he played a critical role in Seagal's wife death didn't try to run away but instead played along as Seagal asked for flying lessons seemingly out of no where and still while his wife is in the morgue.

I think I know why this gotten such good reviews on Amazon now. I tried posting a review where I talk about how unfit Seagal appears in his movies and I got a warning notice from Amazon that I made hate speech. Apparently you can talk about how unfit someone is despite this entire movie has us believe that he's in a role that requires most people to be in upmost fitness level. Perhaps not super fit but at least at believable levels instead of a very large man who doesn't seem to be able to even bend over.

I watched this film last weekend to start off my Seagal collection. I must say this review is pretty spot on. One thing I'd like to add is that the plot of the movie is so complicated that by the end of it, I have no idea if he really avenged his wife's death or his assistant's death. The DEA/Hong Kong Police/Chinese Police whatever decided to use Seagal as a way to expose the crime boss but if that is the case, then wouldn't Seagal's real enemies be the DEA/Hong Kong/Chinese Police and not the crime family that he was murdering one after another? So that would mean that 100% of the people he killed in the film have nothing to do with his wife's death. Plus the DEA Agent and that Hong Kong police woman throughout the movie did absolutely nothing to aid or expose the so-called crime boss and instead only spoke about how awesome Seagal is or what he is doing. So they weren't even doing their job and they had no reason to even come in and aid Seagal since he's trying to expose the crime bosses. So I have no idea what the plot is, or if we could even say it is concluded because none of the people have anything to do with Seagal's wife death or even none of what Seagal did helped the DEA/Hong Kong police/Chinese police.

@noncomplier5385 I heard what happened was the guy fell asleep while he was performing and felt so embarrassed that he gave him the black belt. I’m not even kidding about this. Seriously look it up.

@jakebroz9116 I think the thing about Seagal that you can't really tell from his on screen appearance is that the guy is pretty tall. He's 6' 4" tall and back in his early days, he was a pretty intimidating person just by his height and size alone. I think any normal person would be pretty intimidated by that alone. In modern times, I think he still has an edge over normal height folks in that he's tall, very overweight, but he would still be pretty intimidating by just his height alone. With that said, I think him being in martial arts, regardless of its validity as a combat application, I think that would appeal to a lot of folks and he could easily open a school and having people attend.
