Unfortunately a contract is a binding document regardless if you didn't understood it at the time you signed it. Saying you did not understand a document is not going to uphold in court at all. It is best to never have signed it. If you have an elderly parent or grandparents, please tell them to never sign a document, even at a doctor's office especially if they're the type that doesn't read or understand things. A reasonable doctor or lawyer or real estate agent will wait if you tell them and will not pressure you to signing anything until it is fully understood. Your first clue to a bad person is if they pressure you to sign something even if you say you want to wait.

This is why I always tell my mother never to sign anything at all. Once you sign it, it is almost impossible to disprove it. Never go by what anyone says and always go by what the contract says.

@Dikvej884iv4 she’s a bad person for sure but yes I agree if she had nothing to do with the fire and that her crime is she shared pictures and said bad things then that’s not really criminal at all. I’m thinking she’s actually responsible for the fire itself but the news is unclear.

@TheDarknessOfGames I grew up in a upper middle class neighborhood and noticed something completely crazy once I moved out to a lower middle class apartment. It's the cars! The people at the apartment seemed to all have very pricey, expensive cards. My one neighbor had a 80k truck! But yet in the neighborhood I grew up in people were driving very cheap end cars in the 20-40k ranges. The silliest thing you can do as an adult is have an expensive car. It's easy to qualify for a 100k loan with a really low downpayment and basically can't afford anything else.

@kellyannr4171 it's better that you teach your parents and other elderly people you know that they should be extremely stubborn in signing any sort of contract. Yes this lady was probably ripped off and chances are yes she may ultimately win if she keeps pursuing it. But that's not before there are some major, and I mean major, damages done to her. She'll probably be kicked out, or forced to pay rent and/or home sold to other people. If you don't sign a contract, you have a much better standing in court. Hopefully it's a lesson to other people that that instead of trying to stop criminals and bad people, you should instead be teaching your parents not to sign anything at all and you don't have to worry about people trying to take advantage of them unless they forge your signature which again has a much better chance of getting corrected immediately than if you signed something.

@stryle yung My mother who is considered elderly always bring back home papers for me to read before she signs them. There were a few cases from the dentist where they tried to make her sign a contract to buy expensive procedures. Point is it's not hard to sit down to talk to your elderly grandmother for 10 minutes to explain never sign papers, ever. There are a lot of people who take advantage of people who don't know.

@NotSure876 correct it’s going to be impossible for her to get out of this. She not only signed on the dotted line but also initialed each paragraph. “I didn’t know what I was signing” doesn’t work. Signing contract is binding and powerful. It’s the basis of every law school. The first course you learn is contracts cause that’s the basis of every lawsuit aside criminal.

Maybe they were protestors?

@manaoharsam4211 why should politicians care? It's a free market. If people are willing to pay 100k for it, then they'll continue to sell it.

@mplyles it’s sad but it’s easier for her to not sign it. If you have elderly parents always tell them to never sign something. Once you do it is impossible to get out of it. It’s unfortunate this woman is losing her home but at the end of the day she agreed she signed it. She might win down the road but not before that man does some serious damage like sell the home or kick her out.

@kennethmays8059 even if she chanced upon a burning kid that’s not really criminal if all she did was took pictures of him while he’s on fire. She’s a bad person for sure but certainly not criminal. If all she did was watched and took pictures and said bad things that’s not criminal and in fact anyone who drove past and saw the smoke or even the commotion are just as guilty then and just as criminal. No, I think she’s responsible for the actual fire somehow which is why she was arrested and her sharing the picture is icing on the cake as far as her rotten personality and the fact she not only caused the fire but also shared the result of it.

@NotfromDetroit it wouldn’t happen to my mother or grandmother cause I told them to never sign anything. Don’t sign a paper and you won’t have any problems. Simple as that. Laws on the contract side not the emotional side. It’s hard to convince a court you did not understood the terms of a contract when you initialed each paragraph and signed a legally binding document.

@hippiebits2071 whatever it is, it's going to take a very long time to resolve and by then who knows what can happen to her, her home, and pretty much everything else. Better to not sign it than to sign it and figure out how to undo it.
