I think the problem is that the drug industry suddenly exploded in America and on top of that they became the greatest salesperson for the product. The problem is less to do with drugs but rather the crime element it brings to community. What they should have done was legalize it and tax it and regulate it under FDA. It would make it safer, and do the exact effect they want with it because now instead of buying it from some dealer off the street, you can simply buy it from a store.
