This isn't Nike's fault though, if you think about it. Nike wanted to make a brand, they wanted an image that they had to achieve in whatever way they could. Nike wanted a thin, fit person, no matter the human cost. However...................................... no one is saying she HAD to do it. Nobody FORCED her to do it. She did it because she wanted it so bad that she was willing to sacrifice everything including her self-worth and dignity. All she had to do was say, "No thanks" and leave. Sure she would have lost out on a big contract, and maybe some would call her a loser, but at the end of the day she knew what it was like and could just as well be in this video today having said no, and being able to go do something else. To me the strongest woman is the one who can say no and going off to do her own thing. Nobody talks about those kind of women because they can't politicize it.

To be honest I don't think this is an issue of men vs women. There are plenty of situations where women in show business would make rising stars look and act a certain way. It's really a culture of bringing out a brand and doing anything to make that brand work. In the case of Nike, they wanted this image of star athletes training, and running for the best and they'd do anything to make that brand. It's really a problem of consumerism as well. People are buying bulk Nike brand things. Sometimes I don't even know I'm buying Nike crap as they tend to be cheap things in the bargain bin. Everyone wants to admire the perfect body and if people just don't accept that then people like Alberto won't exist.
