  1. My mum had a cousin by the name of Athol Compton, who worked with Eric Worrell (Australian Reptile Park). I remember mum telling me that in 1967, Athol had been bitten on the thumb by a Taipan in Western Qld. He was flown by air ambulance to Adelaide and was lucky to survive. I don't know many details other than he was in hospital for 3 weeks and lost his sense of taste. Probably a good thing he wasn't bitten on a fleshy area!
