there's been grocery stores in Humboldt since the 1800s
6
hey you should visit Ontario, California
5
@workhardlivefree3818 Oh yeah huh. Hilarious. I live near Eureka but most of my family is in southern Ontario. Toronto/London area.
4
that video series was highly inaccurate.
4
Too bad you couldn't interview John McAvery. He was living out on the actual Lost Coast in an old wood cabin on the beach, southwest of Petrolia. Passed away just recently. Amazing dude.
4
Tribe is spelt Hupa. Land is spelt Hoopa.
4
I doubt any of these hippies were born in Shasta County. One would think there were no loggers or normal people up here, but that is incorrect.
3
That hippie dude definitely does not know what he's talking about.
3
looks awful
3
great video but it feels like your guides are a bit disconnected from reality. wealthy people live in their own world
3
Taxes are killing people in this state. Newsome has to go. We need new management.
2
Yep, Outbreak and The Majestic among others
2
incorrect. It is much more complicated than that. Theyr'e not Chinese at all.
2
huh?
2
This dude's the real deal. The drive up Salmon River to Etna is a good thing to do, and you should too
2
Guilty of farming?
2
@xxa455xx Yes, that pair of cabins near the lighthouse is the McAvery place. The one nearest the beach is the one John lived in, and his brother owned the other one. His daughter probably owns it now, I'm not in contact with her. Look up his woodwork, amazing artist he was.
2
Russians were not active in this area. Not many furs here. The Spanish were also not active in this area, too far north.
2
Seriously. Most growers only saw about 3500 tops
2
@The-D-Hoyt I was growing in the 2000s and was getting about $3200, but knew people selling it for anywhere from 2800 to 4000. If people had buyers back east, they could get 4000 or more, and that was pretty common, but most people were lucky to get 3000 or 3500. Price dropped out significantly since then, tough times
2
That hippie Peter interviewed is not representative of northern californians. For one thing, the Yurok did not inhabit Shasta. The Shasta Indians inhabit Shasta, and the Wintun and other tribes, but not the Yurok. Yurok are downriver on the Klamath.
2
I've had the pleasure of working with Tasha all over the Mattole watershed over the years. Amazing folks down there, beautiful part of America
2
Not exactly
2
Well you could say addiction began with sugar or television or something. Always something to blame
2
What are you talking about
2
I live here and I've never paid that much for gas
1
there was a blizzard in Florida a couple weeks ago
1
big but not big enough to damage anything.
1
they're just jet contrails. They've been around as long as we've had jets. You can come out of the basement and relax.
1
Not an artesian spring of hamburger meat???
1
it's been through fires.
1
exactly
1
No, it is an effort to decrease damage done to the land. Just went too far for the small scale growers
1
Imagine if there was no government regulation. Corporations would still be polluting everything like they did a century ago
1
Not exactly earthquake instability, just the fact that there's nowhere to put the road. Mountain goes right to the ocean. No terrace on which to put the road
1
Also it's not too dangerous to visit, that's all just media hype.
1
You could make the same argument about the Bay Area. Far more dangerous to visit the bay area than anywhere in Humboldt
1
You were about halfway to Humboldt. Come on up for a visit if you can. My parents drive up from LA when they're able to
1
19:30 you know things have changed, because there isn't a small crowd sitting on that bench smoking joints. Used to be the normal thing.
1
We got plenty of those haha
1
racist
1
Only cow poop. Maybe you're a vegetarian
1
That saxophone player dude is awesome. There is hope for the future
1
gotta have some regulations. It's not people you're dealing with here, it's corporations from out of state, and lots of foreigners from out of the country who couldnt care less if they pollute the watershed
1
People speaking Spanish in this country get yelled at by conservatives, to speak English. I suppose we should be yelling at anyone speaking Cajun down in the swamps.
1
It's not about the market price, it's about the health of the forest and resilience to wildfire. A choked out forest can't grow properly, it must be managed
1
The money you'll make from selling those trees is far greater than the cost to cut them
1
those little guavas are fantastic. I buy them at the Co-Op
1
Environmentalists didn't destroy the economy. Loggers destroyed the economy by cutting down all the trees. Can't log if the forest is gone. Just like they said in the video. Those trees take time to grow back. Clearcut the whole forest, the mills are all gonna close down
1
They could have kept cutting, but the only old growth left is in the national and state parks. Unless you have some you're hiding
