  5. I've been here only 20 years but have worked on a lot of ranches and farms, and have never seen a rancher or farmer walk on his land barefoot. Even the hippies wear boots.

  9.  @Victoriak117  I live here and have never seen anybody walking barefoot like this, through fields. Broken old beer bottle glass will cut right through those callouses. Lots of abandoned rusted old farm equipment buried all over the river bottoms, get a good tetanus case if you're not careful. Don't see many rattlesnakes around anymore though

  10.  @Victoriak117  yes the soil is clean of like chemical pollutants generally, if you're not in a lumber mill site, but there's old broken bottles and buried rusted farm equipment in these old river bottoms, following a century and a half of farming, logging and residential life. as an archaeologist I get paid to find all that old stuff. This particular spot is rural compared to San Francisco but it has been farmed since the 1880s or so. mouth of north fork Mad River
