  32.  @TM_Stone  actually bedrock in a lot of areas on the coast is pretty shallow. Palos Verdes is a hill, composed of shale, with basically a thin veneer of soil atop. I used to dig for fossils there as a kid. Not all bedrock is solid, depends on the rock type and the nature of the way it was formed. Granite and shale are very different rock types
