the soil is not bedrock, that is correct. The bedrock is under the soil.

@TM_Stone actually bedrock in a lot of areas on the coast is pretty shallow. Palos Verdes is a hill, composed of shale, with basically a thin veneer of soil atop. I used to dig for fossils there as a kid. Not all bedrock is solid, depends on the rock type and the nature of the way it was formed. Granite and shale are very different rock types

@TM_Stone in the river valleys like up where I live near the coast, the sediment is VERY deep before any bedrock is encountered. Couple of hundred vertical feet of soils and sediments before you reach bedrock so yeah, that would definitely require an elevator

@TM_Stone deep soils out there eh. The river valleys here have sediments going down a couple hundred feet before bedrock is encountered. ancient river corridors cutting through the coastal mountains.
