  17. @myoldvhstapes  those "stripes" you're referring to are known as jet contrails. If you're not seeing them, it's because local humidity is too low for them to form. Otherwise, you should be able to see them on any given day if there are planes going by overhead.

  19.  @myoldvhstapes  no, that is also incorrect. Jet contrails do not necessarily evaporate quickly. It depends on local humidity and other conditions. There have been jet contrails as long as there have been jets. I learned about their formation in college physics classes.

  20.  @myoldvhstapes  those "checkerboard" patterns you observe are the result of planes flying on regular flight paths, and the resulting contrails spreading out to form what looks like a grid pattern. Out west here, there is not very much air traffic, and nearly all the planes fly north to south, so we don't get that grid, we just get the occasional lines running north to south. Use your big boy brain.

  21.  @myoldvhstapes  jet contrails will occur on whatever pattern the jets are flying in. At any given time, there are around 8,000 commercial jets flying over America, all day and all night. That's a lot of potential contrails.

  27. @myoldvhstapes  when you were a kid was it normal for the entire state of Texas to freeze solid each winter? The airports closed and ice storms blanketing the state, crippling the power grid? I don't remember that happening in the 80s or 90s or 2000s, but then it started a few years ago.

  28. @myoldvhstapes  out west here, the ocean has warmed up so much that there are new species of tuna offshore. Warm water species that used to be only rarely seen here are now swarming, whole schools of them, near to shore. Tuna don't lie, the ocean is warming up.

  29. @myoldvhstapes  also the weather generally out west here has changed dramatically. On the redwood coast, the weather has changed a lot in the past 20 years. Anyone here will tell you that, ranchers, fisherman, farmers, loggers. It's quite obvious it's changing. Here we are in December, it's not rained for 2 weeks and there's none in the long term forecast. This just didn't happen previously, weeks of clear warm weather in the middle of winter, but now it happens every winter.
