Russia, the UK, and France punch above their weight because of the UN Security Council, but they are only there because they used to be more influential back when they had colonial empires and because they were on the right side of WW2. Yes, the Soviet Union was colonizing nations with ethnic Russians. Germany, Japan, India, and Saudi Arabia all deserve a seat over Russia.
