@mnm1273 True. The Articles of Confederatcy was the US's first republic, and the current constitution defines our second.

@mnm1273 Two hundred and fifty year old republic and the world's economic, cultural, and military superpower. I think America is doing all right.

@mnm1273 Most of America's biggest companies aren't even 20 years old. How are you still crediting WW2? Was France too poor to make a Amazon, Tesla, or Google?

@inbb510 It is a fallacy to think action is automatically better than inaction. Economies actually tend to preform better during political deadlocks.

France is the model of democracy? Isn't this their fifth try at making a republic?

@mnm1273 *The US a federation of over 300 million people. The system is designed to avoid the tyranny of the majority by giving giving smaller states more power than their population entitles them to. It is like a better design of the EU confederacy. * Having a population divided on left-right ideology is a feature of democracy. Not a bug. If you want a state where one ideology dominates, then try Russia or China. * The courts aren't partisan. Both sides will say it is partisan when they don't agree with a decision, but they will celebrate the impartiality when they agree with it. (Also, it is not the courts role to overrule the constitution, just because people selectively don't like certain amendments.)
