Germany has been freeloading off of American defensive for so long that the Germans felt comfortable cutting costs to maintenance for decades. That is why they have so much broken equipment.

@newfaith912 Or you could spend more money on maintaining battle readiness in case if a NATO response is needed instead of expecting the Americans to do everything. If Poland was invaded it would take months for Germany to do anything due to poor condition of their military.

@zhufortheimpaler4041 Apple and Oranges. It doesn't matter how modern a tank is if you can't get the vehicle working. Poland's old Soviet stock is 100% more useful than the 1/3 of German's Leopards that are currently unfit for combat due to poor maintenance.

@skipperg4436 Abrams are designed for jet fuel, so changing fuel can lead to unforseen problems. It is same issue for people who switch from gas to ethanol in their cars. It runs, but what damage are you doing to your vehicle's engine?
