Natural borders like mountains and rivers aren't that bad. It is when the British randomly draw straight lines is when issues arise.

@puraLusa Mountains are the world's oldest borders as they are an obvious, visible dividing line that help defend against invaders. India, Italy, Russia, and Afghanistan have multiple different empires rule over them, but they all used the same mountain ranges as borders for its obvious benefits.

@agentopaque3776 A) They only knew the country had resources recently B) There isn't any infrastructure such as roads or rail to get those resources. It is also incredibly difficult to build infrastructure in an area plagued with competing insurgents and criminal gangs.
