@vod96 Construction jobs are great for an economy. The Chinese economy for example is fueled by the contruction of homes and apartments. The Chinese are eliminating a local construction industry that could move on to future projects after the Chinese pet project is finished.

@vod96 The US does their big infrastructure through the World Bank with multiple partners to ensure the project is for the benefit of the country receiving the aid instead of the one giving the loan. Meanwhile, the Chinese Communist Party makes sure the money goes to their friends in China. Hiring America engineers makes sense, because it's not like the developing world is awash with engineering firms with advanced software. Local firms still do most of the skilled labor though.

@yumnax Western "aid" isn't loans, so the receiving country gets free stuff. When they do give loans, it is through international organizations like the IMF and World Bank whose charters make sure the low interest loans only benefit the recipient. Meanwhile, China gives out predatory loans to third world countries to pay Chinese companies to build useless vanity projects.
