@willwin4744 The Taliban is crediting themselves with stabilizing the country. (I guess when the Taliban stops committing terrorists attacks, they can take credit for stopping terrorism in the country.)

The world has never been more democratic, so they must be doing something right.

@mattstorey7683 In 1977, only 35 of the 143 countries (24%) qualified as democracies, while 89 (62%) were classified as autocracies. As of the end of 2017, 96 out of 167 (57%) were democracies of some kind, and only 21 (13%) were autocracies. Note: I didn't count countries with populations less than 500,000 like the Vatican. Yes, there are more countries, but a higher percentage of them are democracies. This is very much due to American foreign policy in support of democracies.

The Taliban insurgency is the reason that Afghanistan couldn't develop economically. The country has some of the greatest mineral wealth in the world, but there wasn't a single company in the world that wants to invest in a mining operation that has to deal with IEDs. In addition, trade is being disrupted between major cities because armed Taliban soldiers have been shaking down drivers and bombing crews who build the roads.

@mattstorey7683 It is a discernable fact. Post cold war there has been more democracies than any time ever before. America is typically considered the political, economic, and military leader of the cause of freedom.
