  1. Sounds like Texas gaming machines. Slot machines are illegal in Texas, but "gaming machines" are legal. These machines operate like slot machines, but you win tickets that you can exchange for store credit instead of cash. Of course, these independent gas stations that operate the gaming machines definitely don't pay out cash and have a secret ledger under the counter 😉.
