If Russia could have defeated the rebels fully, then they would have done so a decade ago.

Syria Defense Forces are the Turkey proxies on the northern border, while the Syrian Democratic Forces are the Kurd led forces in the east. Patrick was correct.

@asha-vahishta It's not the same. Look at how Iraq defeated ISIS. The organization and its idology aren't gone, but they aren't operating a competing government within the country's territory. Assad and Putin can't even force the opposition underground or into strongholds in a neighboring country.

@2lbsTrigrPull Assad's forces never captured all of Syria, so the opposition never has to change into civilian attire. The opposition has had a standing army for over a decade uninterrupted. The Taliban never went into hiding in Afghanistan. They just moved their stronghold into Pakistan until NATO troops withdrew from certain parts of the country.

@claudeyaz Russia dropping old Soviet stockpiles of dumb bombs on civilians was actually very budget conscious, so it didn't feed the defense industry much. Plus, Russian defense countries only turn a profit on exports, so using it for the Russian military doesn't really fit your conspiracy.

@paulfraszczynski674 No. Assad, even when backed by Hezbollah, Irani militias, and Russian airpower, never had the manpower or firepower to capture or control the whole country.

@warcreed5658 Yet, he said, "Turkish backed"

@warcreed5658 He was talking about Turkey and his proxies choosing to watch from the sidelines as he mentioned by name the Syrian Democratic Forces. Seems like the editor used the wrong map.

@2lbsTrigrPull The US expelled the Taliban into Pakistan before withdrawing troops that let the Taliban recapture territory. Syria and Russia have never been able to force the opposition out of Syria or force them into an insurgency. The Syrian opposition has always controlled huge chunks of territory and population.

@jack_dparrow Yes. America's main interests are to prop up the kurds to prevent an ISIS resurgence and to prevent Iran from having an easy route to ship weapons from Iran to Lebanon. Europeans want stability in order to not have more refugees in Europe. The Trump administration was obsessed with the oil infrastructure, but Obama and Biden could care less.

@jgw9990 Sunnis aren't a minority in a third of Iraq.
