They should just pass what both parties agree with for now. Republicans agreed on giving $1000 to the lowest income families and funding vaccination efforts. Democrats are holding it up because they also want to balloon the national debt by sending $1400 to everyone including high earners who don't need it, and they want to bail out Democrat-run states who have been on the edge of bankruptcy way before covid due to out of control spending.

@richthompson2937 It won't be paid back, but if it gets so high to where bond holder question the government's ability to pay the interest payments, then it could lead to a massive budget shortfall in the future. This will lead to a huge economic downturn and higher taxes that the next generations will have to deal with. (Just look at the economy of Argentina.) But who cares about our kids' future as long as you get your $2000 and blue states don't have to balance their budgets.

He gave it a try? Republicans didn't agree with everything he wanted, so he gave up on partisanship. "Unity" by having the minority party surrender to all the demands of the party in power is how it works in Russia and China.
