  1. They are the cities' residents, taxpayers, and family members. If the immigrants aren't criminals, then there is no obligation to help the federal government enforce a civil offense.

  2.  @broadestsmiler  Immigrants pay sales taxes and property taxes while doing very little to collect benefits. Good luck getting government aid without any documentation. Many will use other social security numbers to get jobs and pay payroll taxes. There are a ton of guardrails to prevent social security payments to non citizens, but there is basically no one trying to stop payroll taxes from non citizens. There isn't a credible economist who thinks immigrants collect more benefits than they pay.
