  2. I'm not sure why you think it is mutually exclusive. Oil production is up due to fracking, but thanks to Canadian oil sands, the US is no longer dependent on oil outside of North America.

  5.  @andrewnelson4148  American oil consumption is lower than what domestic drilling produces. Mexico, Canada, and a few other nations send their oil to America for refining oil sands and other thick crudes can't be refined in many places outside of Houston. This refined oil can then be exported outside of the US as a value-added product.
