Comparing Medieval Spain to post-colonial Africa and Asia is like comparing apples to screwdrivers.

@alanrobertson9790 Not all colonialism is the same. America, for example, has built up the Philippines democratic institutions in preparation for the Philippines' eventual independence. Meanwhile, the British in Africa dismantled any institution that didn't leave the locals dependent on UK administration, and they pitted ethnic groups against one another as a form of divide and conquer. The Philippines were left with a democratic tradition and capable administrators. Meanwhile, Africa was left with ethnic conflicts.

@alanrobertson9790 Again. Not all colonialism is the same. India has local princes rule much of the country, so they weren't left without any governing experience. You also don't know much history if you are unaware of the hundreds of thousands who died in ethnic/religious conflicts following the departure of the British. Meanwhile, Australia, America, and New Zealand had their own independent governments and were mostly just expected to follow British foreign policy and pay taxes.

@alanrobertson9790 You are conflicting yourself. First, you claim that there is something inherit to these cultures that makes their governments fail, but when one mentions the negative effects colonialism had on the culture, you deny that culture matters. Also, having a foreign colonizer write your constitution and then leave you to have your first election is hardly the environment for a deep democratic tradition. Just look at the difference between the after effects of the American and French revolutions. America had state democracies for decades while France had the undemocratic three estates. America republicism thrived while the French turned to Napoleon.

Dutch disease isn't unique to the middle east. The difference is that instead of funding liberal arts majors, the state funds theology.

@alanrobertson9790 Your whole premise is false as it has been established that the British weren't uniform in their governing of their colonies. The British weren't even uniform in the same colony as different colonial governors could have vastly different policies towards their subjects than their predecessors. The success of colonies can be directly linked to the quality of their institutions and not your racist beliefs that these non European are inheritly lesser.
