You need something fast and armored to push through fortified positions.

How many Ukraine mechanic have experience working on a diesel engine vs a jet engine? There are a lot of reasons for not seeding Abrams. Otherwise, America would have sent them.
2
@leoniefreihart You know there are half a dozen countries with Leopard tanks waiting for permission from Germany to send their tanks to Ukraine? It is not like Germany would be the only one sending tanks.
2
By "strategically wrong", you mean allowed themselves to be invaded?
1
@mundkhya Russia invaded Ukraine with the goal of stealing territory and removing Ukrainian sovereignty. There wouldn't be a war or a need for the US to send so many weapons if Russia didn't invade
1
Remember when Putin said over and over that he had zero plans on invading Ukraine?
1
@Sophiedorian0535 The goal is for Russia to fail to steal any land from a sovereign democracy in order to discourage any autocrats from trying again. The degradation of the Russian military's ability to invade any other US allies is just a major bonus. The US also has zero interest in the collapse of the Russian Federation as Russia has uses keeping peace among its ethnic republics. Just look at how the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict has been escalating due Russia being too weak to enforce a peace.

@gordanmoran4549 The Abram works for the US due to them haven't plenty of specialized mechanics, a unparalleled logistics, and nearly unlimited money for fuel. Meanwhile, Leopard tanks will just require a refresher course for Ukraine's diesel mechanics.
1
@leoniefreihart They have asked permission to send their German-made tanks to Ukraine, but Germany won't let them. They have to ask Germany permission to re-export, because that is part of the contract for buying those tanks. Poland and Norway are very vocal in wanting to send their Leopards, so if you can't find a source then you aren't looking very hard.

@dragani2330 Seems like using bureaucracy as an excuse to cowardice. Classic Germany.
1
@dragani2330 Poland, Nordic, Baltic government officials all asked the German officials if they send their Leopard tanks to Ukraine, and the German response was "we are still thinking about it". Since they didn't ask for any clarification through paperwork, it makes me think you are either very dim or intentionally making a disingenuous argument.
1
@dragani2330 👈More disingenuous arguments. The Leopard is the most common tank in NATO. This means that there are dozens of countries that can send their Leopard tanks to Ukraine if the Germans weren't so busy trying to appease Putin by not allowing Leopard tanks to be re-exported to Ukraine. Having a uniform tank force will simplify maintenance, logistics, and training. The Challengers are probably more trouble than they are worth, but they were sent because Germany said they didn't want to be the first to send tanks. Of course, the lying Germans moved the goal post by saying UK tanks don't count. I'm sure as soon as Abrams are sent, the lying Germans will move the goalpost again to justify their cowardice.
1
@dragani2330 Double standard with Germany!?! They spend less than 1% of GDP on military spending and most of that goes to bureaucratic nonsense. Germany hasn't done their fair share in decades. Even when Germany sends equipment to Ukraine, it often months late and broken. Your deflections of German cowardice is getting lazier and lazier. The 1936 Montreux Convention makes it impossible to move navel equipment into the Black Sea. It is also embarrassingly hypocritical to criticize America for not going to war with the Russian Navy when Germany is too scared to send tanks for Germany to defend themselves.
1
@dragani2330 The Budapest Memorandum wasn't a defense treaty. The UK, US, and Russia agreed not to attack Ukraine if Ukraine gave up their nukes. The US and UK wanted tougher EU sanctions on Russia after the 2014 invasion, but Germany had the sanctions watered down and then they built another Nord Stream pipeline. The copping to justify German cowardice and Putin appeasement is impressive.
1
@dragani2330 Do you really not understand that every EU country as veto power over EU foreign policy? Germany has always been Putin's champion in the EU.
1
@dragani2330 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Germany was so humiliated by their cowardice that the only poltical out for the chancellor was if America bailed them out with a goodwill gesture. Due to Germany selfishness, America will now be wasting resources on a few troublesome tanks instead of more useful equipment that could help Ukraine win the war.
1
@dragani2330 Nationalist rhetoric? Only the Social Democrats are pro-appeasement. Everyone else feels shame for the cowardice.
