  2. Bolton and Trump are very different people. Bolton is an ideologue who will stand on his principles even when it is against his interests or even if it hampers his goals. Meanwhile, Trump believes in nothing and only pretends to be a conservative or liberal when it is a convenient tool to enrich himself.

Instead of getting China to agree to reforms that harm America trade such as dumping, intellectual property theft, and protectionism, Trump decided to get China to pinky promise to buy more from America special interests groups. The Result: China bought only 57% of the $200 billion committed to purchase under the deal, not even enough to reach its import levels from before Trump's trade war.
