How did we get to the point in America where there are mainstream advocates for paying people to stay home instead of working low-wage jobs. I have managed minimum wage workers, and they are not worth $15/hour. Businesses would rather invest in automation, then pay people $15 for $9 worth of work.

@milothegreatful Their work effort was the issue. The hard working ones that deserved $15/hour left the company for businesses that paid what they deserve. The lazy ones that are barely worth $8/hour never leave their minimum wage jobs, because no one would hire them at companies that pay better. Often companies that pay better will fire the lazy worker for being so unproductive.

@milothegreatful They will all remain unemployable in the future as the government forces businesses to choose between automation/outsourcing and paying unproductive workers more than the economic value they produce.

@milothegreatful Yes, but I can promise you that these workers are too dumb or lazy to ever pick up the skills required to fix machines. There is a why reason people at Walmart have worked as cashiers at Walmart for twenty years without being promoted or finding a higher paying job outside the company. When they are replaced by self checkout, they will not have the work effort to get a $20/hour IT job that repairs self checkout machines.

@milothegreatful They don't want to work. Walmart has promotions to shift leaders/department heads and trains people for specialized jobs like air condition/refrigeration repair, but there are employees who don't want to put the work in to get these jobs. Think about all the people who dropped out of high school even though it was 100% paid for.

@milothegreatful You missed the point completely. Many of these low-waged people are offered advancement and more pay, but they refuse it, because they rather do the bare minimum and complain that they aren't paid as much as people with skills like mechanics and electricians. The more the government gets involved, the more complicit they are with doing nothing. There are legitimate criticisms of our k12 system, but it shows poor work effort to quit before getting a degree. These are the people you think deserve $15-$20 to operate a cashregister.

@ZooTrekkerChronicles There could be other factors that effect hiring like diversity initiatives. I got lucky last year, because of the 7 new hires, I was the only non-African American they hired in the district.
