The only way it was possible for Ukraine to join NATO would have been for Ukraine to give up the Donbas and Crimea to Russia as members can't join without territorial integrity. This would be a political non starter for the Ukrainian people. The danger of NATO expansion is just a lie sold to a gullible population to justify needless aggression.
