  3. @itsallminor6133  It goes both ways. China wants to be an export market and reduce unemployment, so it suppresses wages and devalues their currency. Meanwhile, the US wants cheap consumer goods, so it strengthens their dollar and quality of life for its citizens. To break this status quo, China would have to increase the value of their currency and switch to a consumption based society. They don't want to do this because it will take power away from Communist controlled exporters and give it to citizens and entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, the US won't give up the dollar dominance because it allows deficit spending, and it also makes consumers get products on the cheap. Americans couldn't even stomach a laughably low 7% inflation rate when most of the world had double-digit inflation.
