Same. I’m just out of the business of worrying about people who refuse to help themselves.

@FudgethePudge No problem me thinks the fascists will come for them…until they show up on their doorstep in the middle of the night. Careful what you wish for.

The Republic Party needs to end. We need a new right-leaning party that isn’t based on appealing to the worst aspects of human nature. …and as counterweight to some of Progressivisms goofier ideas. (I say that as Democrat and post-Progressive.)

@dbadagna The Right abandoned its duty to govern responsibly a generation ago. That’s why you have two conservatives sitting there trying to figure out how they got run out of their own party…and how it all came to this. Truth is THIS was the predictable conclusion of The Southern Strategy. All Trump has done is say the quiet parts of Republican politics for the last 60 years….shamelessly and out loud. He is not a difference in kind. Just a difference in degree. But I don’t think our hosts are ready to face that harsh truth yet.

Keep dancing around the Elephant in the Living Room. Immigration and Inflation were the socially acceptable topics…not the issue this election turned on. This was an election was a backlash. Trump was against cultural, racial and demographic change. Democracy and Whiteness were on the ballot and America chose whiteness. Again. Until you face this ugly truth head on, none of this will ever make any sense. Because it about power and identity…not reason or principle.

@a5cent We need a sane OPPOSITION party. That party will not be the GOP. It’s too far gone…and its leaders are too addicted to the power….
1
@ Because the GOP abandoned its duty to govern responsibly. Now it is power at any price. No act to secure it is beneath them. They are a dying political party. There is a realignment shifting away from them. The only question is will it happen fast enough to keep them from ruining the nation. Because they’d rather rule in Hell than serve in Heaven….

No. The justice system moves at the pace it moves at. It took five years to bring the former governor of Michigan Rick Smith to justice for the kleptocracy he ran in that state. The problem is the constitutional immunity afforded The Presidency… and all Trumps enablers. Those willing to deal with a Devil if they think they can get what they want out of it. We should have enough intelligence and integrity not to put a known criminal in the WH…but we clearly don’t. Garlands job wasn’t to ave the electorate from its own stupidity and broken moral compass.
1
@ Yep. Unlike the Senate of Nixon’s era…who put country before party…McConnell put personal power above everything. All these guys think they can control him or make use of him…and they keep turning up wrong.
1
@ No. It should have never been that close…and it wasn’t this time. Trump won it outright. No excuses. America embraced this man and his antics. This is who we are….and there is no point in trying to pretend otherwise.
1
@ Wrong. The way he went about it is PRECISELY how you take down a criminal enterprise. The issue is that real gangsters can’t obtain immunity by running for President…. … then have people who are foolish enough to vote them into office. Compromising the integrity of the investigation by trying to cut corners and “hurry it up” would have just lent credibility to Trumps lies about persecution. It was our job to guard the ballot box, and we were asleep at our post. Too busy doomscrolling and watching Fox News.

The Southern Strategy. In Trumpism you are seeing the Faustian bargain Republicans made with Southern racial and religious authoritarianism in the name of power. The American South was like South Africa. Segregation was America’s version of Apartheid. When it was ended Southerners were outraged and declared war on the Federal government. Again. Conservatives and the super-rich saw this as their chance to destroy the administrative state. Which you got. The problem is that these authoritarians didn’t forget their own agenda. The conservatives got pushed out of the party…and now the super rich and the former segregationists are ready to destroy democracy in order to keep white Christians in power. Like Clintonsaid in her WP op-ed about 1/6: “Too many American, when given the choice between democracy and whiteness, choose whiteness. Trump shamelessly puts whiteness on the ballot… and American votes for it. Again. Yes. This is who we are and we need to stop trying pretend that Elephant in The Living Room isn’t real. Fifty years of trying to ignore it is what got us here. Fifty years of the GoP playing footsie with white supremacy in return for votes lead to this. When the gods wish to punish us, they give us what we pray for. Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes….

@LittleRockVol …and what have Republicans EVER done for the poor economically? Besides try to find new ways to exploit them. The problem is they complain that Democrats talk to them like they’re stupid. They don’t realize that Republicans ASSUME they ARE stupid and just move accordingly….
