Actually what she's saying is common knowledge to anyone who gets their news outside of the right-wing echo chamber. What Psaki is really doing is giving a seminar on building (and keeping) political alliances. You dont' throw an ally under the bus simply because you disagree with them on a single issue. Praise in public. Argue and criticize away from the cameras and microphones.

Really? Are you that naive...or have 4 years of Trump Administration INCOMPETENCE left you unable to recognize COMPETENCE when you see it. Psaki is showing you what a GOOD Presidential Press Secretary looks and sounds like. Unlike her predecessors in the previous Adminstration, she knows the issues. Knows her job...and comes PREPARED for the questions she'll face. Like a top student being prepared for a test. Which is why when right wing news outlets try to get her with "gotcha" questions, she makes them look like idiots. With a smile. The reason why she beat this reporter into the ground is because she's shutting down any efforts to try create controversy and division between a Democratic governor in a tough spot and the Adminstration. So she praised Whitmer lavishly in public...so that any negotiations and discussions in private go more smoothly. Its letting Whitmer know that---even if they disagree on this one issue----they have her back in public.

@BastardIntellectual Then you need to learn the difference between LIES...and spin. Lies are not true no matter how you look at them. Trump LIED to us for 5 years. What you are getting from Psaki is SPIN. SPIN takes facts that are true...and then presents them in the best possible light. So that you get the Adminstrations message out....and you rally support for what you want to get done. She is a saleswoman selling you on a set of ideas. She's going to tell you the good stuff...and its the media's job to get her to tell us about the bad. Its her job to resist (without lying) doing that. I followed politics for 40 years, I know exactly what Psaki is doing....and have seen it enough to know that she is VERY good at it. Like a good salesmen, she blends pure facts with partisan spin with such skill that you hve to work (and be well informed yourself) to tell the difference. But when you become so cynical that you just insist that EVERYONE lies and ENVERYONE is corrupt? That when the fascists WIN. They WANT you believe that everyone is bad, so there is no point to defending principles or good governance.

@BastardIntellectual Wrong again. I've already told you exactly what sort of "manipulation" she's doing...and WHY she is doing it. I'm not losing my shit because I've been suckered. I'm not losing my shit because I understand the game being played...and that its her JOB to play this game. She is not a journalist. It is not her job to come out there and give us an unbiased rendition of the facts. That is the job of hte people ASKING her the questions...and most of them SUCK at it. Which is why she is making most of them look like fools. Her job is to help the Administration to SELL the public on their policies. To PERSUADE us to support them. So like a good salesman she is going to emphasize the positive, and deflect attention from the negative. Which is ETHICAL, as long as she does not LIE...which she does not do. She went out of her way to praise Whitmer so lavishly in order to DISTRACT us from the fact that she is refusing to fall in line and close her state, even though its seeing one of the worst CoVID spikes in the country right now. They are not going to take the baid and criticize her publicly, and alienate her. The chief weapon in Psaki's arsenal is her intelligence and her charm. She knows the issues better than the reporters, so she quickly shuts them down when they try to go someplace she doesnt' want them to....and she does it with such politeness and charm that you don't realize (like hte reporter in that segment) that you just got hit over the head by 2x4. Or gotten cut with a razor so skillfully that you didn't feel it. The difference here is that this Adminstration respects our norms, and is actually trying to GOVERN is a reasonablly ethical fashion. Whereas the Trump Administration was a proto-fascist kleptocracy.

@BastardIntellectual Naah. That's your own bias you're seeing. I've already discribed in great detail how she's trying to spin my eyes out of my head, and that's she's very good at it. The difference is that I'm not cynical. I understand the difference between someone trying to persuade me (Psaki) and someome simply trying to decieve me (Insert Trump Press Secretary of choice).... ...but most importanly I know the issues well enough to recognize what I'm getting served up. Spin is a part of politics and governing...and you'll never get rid of it. Lying....is an entirely different animal. The issue is that Psaki is so good she doesn't have to lie to get her job done.
