@chrissyb1885 Which county? Where? And what were the number? Oh and who was the source? This is what he means by “media literacy”. Anyone can make the sort of fact-free accusation/allegation you are making. But the real world works on facts...supported by evidence. Which is why Trump lost over 50 court cases, because he couldn’t prove any of this. We’re not dumb. We just know that YOU are being lied to and manipulated. Oh, and in my state it IS an absentee ballot. I get the opportunity to choose to vote that way every year.

Or getting a visit from the Secret Service.

Android Icaro unfortunately he IS serious. That’s the level of crazy the Right here is playing around with.

These are right-wing authoritarian **followers**. They don’t form their worldview from independently, rationally, weighing facts. They absorb it from trusted authorities, and from their “tribe”. Which is why you keep hearing the same themes about trust and having their beliefs reflected back to them. This is what tribalism looks like at a micro level. Their worldview is basically a tribal mythology. Right wing media has essentially cut these people off from reality and is simply feeding them pro-Republican propaganda.

@rael5469 No. He fled the scene. You are NOT allowed (Supreme Court) to shoot someone for simply running away. This was NOT a legitimate use of force. Which is why they are trying to spin this as an accident rather than a conscious choice.

Travelin' Man Wow. Just no.

Most of them aren’t anymore. They just blatantly lie, and they’re voter just believe it unquestioningly.

Gotta love speaking truth to power….

When in doubt, follow the money....

Trump is a symptom. Trump is the irrational conclusion of 50 years of Southern Strategy politics by the GOP. Trump just says in public and openly what Republicans have been saying in private and in dog whistles for the last 50 years.

One healthcare worker to another? Amen.

@rael5469 I hate BAD cops. I have nothing against police who do their jobs well and professionally. Which means being able to tell the difference between a 9mm and a taser....and can exercise good judgement about the use of force.
1
@rael5469 So much for “All Lives Matter”....but then we know that the people trumpeting that line don’t really believe that. Actually she did murder Daunte Wright (say his name). Lesser murder charges in Minnesota apparently dont require intent or premeditation. Just acting with reckless disregard for life.... and not being able to tell the difference between a 9mm and a taser. Between an instrument of lethal force and non-lethal force meets that standard. Also it is against the law (unconstitutional use of force) to shoot someone for simply running away from police. So she is in serious legal trouble. The only question is whether a jury will follow the law? Or just issue the police a blank check to do whatever they damn well please as you seem to want to do.

Sorry for your loss.

Sarah Palin was the prototype for Donald Trump. Politics that are bereft of any truth or reason...and all about group identity and intensity of belief. Like Trump, she's not very bright but has a kind of charisma that appeals to many on the Right. It was no coincidence that people were showing up at her rallies with all kinds of racist signs and slogans directed at (then) Senator Obama. Which is why people need to understand that Trump is not a BUG...his emergence is a FEATURE. The irrational conclusion of 50 years of Southern Strategy politics. Which has turned the GOP into the party of White Supremacy.

@betelgeuse1227 This. We have become small, selfish and scared as a people. Especially in the generation since 9/11…

@ChaosCuteness01 This change is for the worse. We are flirting with fascism.

@ psst….you’re proving her point….

What is it? Economic stress. What Obama and Trump both had in common was an economic populist message. Both appealed to white working-class voters because they are struggling economically and feel abandoned by the system. Democrats abandoned them to push for social changes that the white working class was often opposed to. While cozying up to the Finance and Tech sectors for campaign money While the GOP will flatter these same people culturally (and in racial term...ahem Trump) while just outright exploiting them economically Trump WON the Rust Belt because he was the only one who showed up and PRETENDED to care about what is happening here with de-industrialization. Clinton was too busy with her victory lap in Sun Belt Red States to even bother to show up. Unless Democrats get their act together and come up with a platform that includes these voters, they risk losing those vital Rust Belt swing states again in 2020. Trump is underwater here....but not by much.

Everyone remembers the FIRST half of Clinton's "basket of deplorables" quote....but no one remembers the REST of what she said about Trump voters. Ironically she understood the problem...but then did NOTHING to win over that other group of Trump voters.

You have to understand that the Right isn’t a monolith, and that “winning” doesn’t have the same meaning to the various factions. Progressives aren’t going to win this “war” on facts or policy, because this is a conflict over emotion and identity. Which is why the Right is willing to lie, and make up “alternative facts”. To the monied elite on the Right? They’ve already won. The whole point was to rile up working class whites by invoking white Christian solidarity…to get them to support economic policies that hurt working people and makes rich people richer. Mission accomplished. To working class and social conservatives this is a fight over white supremacy and Christian dominance over society. They’re freaking out because they feel that they are losing. So as long as these authoritarians are being asked to live in a society where difference is respected rather that stigmatized and controlled? You’re always going to find something to rile them up. That’s what you have to understand. It’s not a conflict between Left and Right, or Conservatives vs Progressives. It’s between Egalitarians and Authoritarians over what kind of country we’ll be…and the Authoritarians lost their minds back in 2008 when we elected a Black President, and they have returned to sanity yet…

They can’t legally touch you….but we have an administration that does not care about the rule of law.

Amen.

i think you're right about how the police will try to play this. The wildcard is whether the community will accept this. The Chief walked out of the conference because he lost control of the narrative. He tried to make the officer who fired look sympathetic...but the press came armed with the facts...and were making the shoot look even MORE unjustified by calling into question the legitimacy of the initial STOP. You can't shoot someone for running away. There will be a big financial settlement with the family. But she'll get over charged (murder) by the DA...(if charges are brought at all) ....and then saved from conviction by reasonable doubt as to intent. Instead of being convicted for negligent homicide or manslaughter. Rinse and Repeat.
