  1. You have to understand that the Right isn’t a monolith, and that “winning” doesn’t have the same meaning to the various factions. Progressives aren’t going to win this “war” on facts or policy, because this is a conflict over emotion and identity. Which is why the Right is willing to lie, and make up “alternative facts”. To the monied elite on the Right? They’ve already won. The whole point was to rile up working class whites by invoking white Christian solidarity…to get them to support economic policies that hurt working people and makes rich people richer. Mission accomplished. To working class and social conservatives this is a fight over white supremacy and Christian dominance over society. They’re freaking out because they feel that they are losing. So as long as these authoritarians are being asked to live in a society where difference is respected rather that stigmatized and controlled? You’re always going to find something to rile them up. That’s what you have to understand. It’s not a conflict between Left and Right, or Conservatives vs Progressives. It’s between Egalitarians and Authoritarians over what kind of country we’ll be…and the Authoritarians lost their minds back in 2008 when we elected a Black President, and they have returned to sanity yet…
