  1. No. The past weather was normal. The reason it is drier is because of climate change. The warmer weather pushes the high pressure cell farther north which increases temperatures and evapotranspiration. This is the worst drought in literally over a thousand years.

  6.  @rimc8783  Arizona has loads of trees that are really old due to orographic lift with the monsoons and tiny amounts of moisture that get past the rain shadow California's mountains create. For the thousand year old tree, that tree is the bristlecone pine in southern Nevada.

  7.  @rimc8783  The heat will affect the specific patterns of the rain. The farther south you go along the west coast of the North America from Alaska to central Baja, the drier it gets and the same thing with Europe and Africa. If it gets warmer, that drier area will go farther north. It is also why Europe is getting hit very hard right now with California.
