Lee and his Battleships were off Guadalcanal - when a couple of US PT boats - who were not used to seeing American Battleships in Sea Lark Channel ... had the effrontery to challenge him. They didn't seem to believe who he was so he responded with something like (I'm going from memory here) "I'm Ching Chong China Lee! Now get out of my way. I'm coming through". The PT boat skippers - not being of an age where they ever would have heard of his nick name - were confused by it but ... they recognized when they were being yelled at by an American Naval Officer of superior rank - and got out of the Battleships way ... The American Battleships went on that night to add yet another chapter to Why You Don't Fight Battleships With Battle Cruisers ... .
