@mgt2010fla First off - paragraphs are your friend. Next - yes - they were trying to drum up support for making the Enterprise a memorial in New York - and that was probably a mistake. The battleships that went to coastal states as a memorial had more support in their name sake states. I can remember putting my dimes in a can for the North Carolina - and - got to go play on her once. Bet toy an 11 year old boy ever had. As to the last four - memorials were seen as money makers - AND - at least initially - the memorials were required to keep these ships capable of being recalled to service. So - they were much more popular. The Missouri being moored right next to the Arizona made a fitting book end for WWII - with the war beginning with one and ending on the other. .

A wall of text - does not - but if you want to make it difficult for your readers - go right ahead. As to my military service - USMC 1970-1972. I was also employed by the USN as a civilian computer programmer - and - have two catapult launches to my credit though no arrested landings. One of the guys I worked with - had two arrested landings and no cat launches. [shrug] As to History - I have a Masters Degree (which there were no jobs for - hence the computer programming) and have been studying History since the first book I read on the Marines when I was 10 years old - close to 60 years ago.
