  1. Yeah ... before the war - the USN practiced Day Light Gunnery - and they were really good at it. During the Battle of the Komandorski Islnds the Salt Lake City was able to hold her own against a numerically superior force by chasing shell splashes. Because of Aircraft though - most other battles were fought at night - which is where those torpedoes ruled. .
