  1. Remember how Putin insisted, before the war, that he had no plans to invade Ukraine? Maybe he wasn’t lying after all: maybe he really didn’t have any plan. Just point his troops at the border, tell them “go on, then” and hope for the best.

  2. Putin may have had a point about the expansion of NATO being unnecessarily provocative. But all that has gone out the window now: the world overwhelmingly sees him as a madman and a war criminal. Pro world-leader tip: if you’re trying to argue against the formation of a defence pact against you, you don’t do it by threatening the safety of countries that are thinking of joining that pact. It kind of undermines your whole argument, you know?
