24:44 Not at USD2495, though. While an improvement on the Lisa, it was still seen as a rather pricey machine. John Sculley discussed this in his book; if it had bee priced at USD1995, it would have had a lot more impact.

3:20 Yes, there was an internal 64KiB ROM, which included much of the OS. But the boot disk provided patches and fixes to this, as well as localized system messages that were not built into the ROM.

5:35 Just as he talks about “room-sized” machines, up on the screen flashes a picture of a PDP-1, the first machine from a new company called Digital Equipment Corporation, pioneering this new computing concept called “interactive time-sharing”, where the computer spent its time waiting for you, rather than the other way round. Oh, and DEC made machines that were cheap enough for this to be a very productive way of working.

@A Tangerine Actually, there were quite a few other printers you could use (e.g. the Star NX-10). All they had to do was output a bitmap, and rely on the Mac itself to generate the image, using the same graphics and font engine that worked for on-screen drawing, just at a higher resolution.

2:58 Ah, that 400K floppy drive whirr ... and listen to the note change as it changes the motor speed for different tracks. The later 800K drives didn’t whirr musically any more ... they just grunted.

18:24 Yes, pretty catastrophic, only to be used in the most dire circumstances. Normally ⌘-shift-1 and ⌘-shift-2 will eject the floppy drives, but will not dismount the floppies. If you reboot and hold the mouse button down, the ROM boot sequence will eject the floppy.
