Tell me again, why was copyright law a good idea to begin with? It was originally created as a Government-granted publisher/distributor monopoly, not to favour content creators at all. And today’s mess is simply that concept carried to its logical conclusion.

@jamescarter3196 By “recourse” do you mean “incentive”? If copyright is supposed to be an incentive to create, then why do artists have to turn over their copyrights to publishers? Why keeps them creating, if they have to surrender their incentive to create?

@jamescarter3196 Corporate publishers tend to have more legal resources than solo artists. It can be very expensive to a) pursue a copyright-infringement case against someone, or b) defend a case brought against you. Not just expensive, but time-consuming and generally life-ruining. Publishing companies have the resources to do this, individuals tend not to. The whole of copyright law is set up to favour those publishing companies, not the artists.

@jamescarter3196 What is the point of a “legal right” you cannot afford to enforce? Particularly when things like YouTube’s automated ContentID takedowns are stacked against you.
