  3. The difference between the good guys and the bad guys is that the good guys don’t behave like bad guys, even under provocation. Sinking to their level just gives an undeserved validity to their position.

  4. The US could do with a proportional-voting system. That way, every vote counts equally. Here in NZ we used to have the UK-style first-past-the-post voting for electorate MPs, and there were a couple of times where the party that got the most seats in Parliament actually had fewer votes than the opposition. Since we adopted the German style of proportional voting, that can’t happen any more. The German system was also designed to ensure that a dictator could never get power in that country again. That’s one reason we liked it in NZ. Maybe the US should try it?

  6. Is a Supreme Court appointment a political appointment or not? Since when are political appointments made for life? You have the convention, do you not, that when there is a change of leadership in the White House, then political appointees associated with the previous leader (e.g. ambassadorships) are terminated and replaced. Why should the Supreme Court be a special case?
