Using USian terms, NZ is a nation predominantly made up of secular liberals with a high respect for science and low tolerance for dogmatic ideology and “faith” and other such reality-optional doctrines. The Government gets a high credibility rating because it treats the populace with respect.

The Epidemic Response Committee, which is monitoring the Government’s handling of the crisis, is actually dominated by the opposition National party. So basically every single one of the 5 parties we currently have in Parliament has some say in what is going on. That’s part of what, in a democratic nation, we might call “checks and balances”.   4. Funny about “pro-lifers”. They tend to be in favour of the death penalty. And they are also among the ones saying let’s go back to gathering and living and working as normal, and let the virus kill whom it will.
