  3. Protections on symlinks don’t matter. You aren’t allowed to do anything to them that might be controlled by those protections anyway.

  4. Actually, it’s quite all right for certain special files (e.g. unix sockets) to be mode 777. That just means that the server listening on the socket will accept connections from anybody.
