2:13 Ubuntu may be the one with the biggest mindshare. But even that may be questionable, given the popularity of user-friendly alternatives like Linux Mint. Just because it’s got the biggest marketing budget behind it doesn’t mean it’s got the most users.

@DistroTube So you disapprove of Distrowatch basing its popularity ratings on search figures. And all you can offer to counter that is Google’s search figures.

@DistroTube Do I detect the scent of circular reasoning? Claiming that ubuntu.com being “large, popular and respected” (particularly in the eyes of a company that only exists to sell advertising) somehow correlates to popularity of the distro is exactly the sort of claim I was pointing out as dubious. Mindshare ≠ market share.

Is there some other site that does a better job of watching all the Linux distros?

@DistroTube If you conflate mindshare with market share, then you really have no idea how the marketplace works. I say that as a former fan of a proprietary company (Apple) that has always enjoyed mindshare way in excess of its actual market share. And as for garages, both Apple and HP were started by guys in garages. Do you really want to be seen to be anti-garage?
