  1. It emulates the Windows abstract machine. People seem to think there is some kind of impermeable wall between “hardware” and “software”, but in Computer Science we have the concept of “abstract machines”, where we can build one layer on top of another, and the distinction is a minor implementation detail.

  2. All the companies that used to use Windows for serious work are moving to the cloud (largely at Microsoft’s bidding). And the cloud is dominated by Linux.

  3.  @dkosmari  Correct. “Emulation” in CS doesn’t really mean anything fundamentally different from, say, “implementation”.
