  4. There is a saying: “it takes years to become an overnight success”. While the USA and others of that ilk were embracing “Reaganomics” and proclaiming that the Government should take a hands-off approach because it was not competent to pick winners and losers in business, the Taiwanese (and other Asians) were setting up partnerships between Government and business to invest in new industries for the long haul.
