  3. The US system is missing too many of the safeguards of democracy. For example, an independent Electoral Commission to draw boundaries and run elections. It doesn’t score very highly on press freedom. Also it helps if every vote counts equally, as in Germany. Talking of Germany, their system was brought in after World War II to ensure that a dictator could not take power there again. Maybe time for the US to give it a try?
