  2. It’s going to be interesting to see how they use their ARM chips in a Mac Pro replacement. The everything-integrated-and-unupgradeable approach worked fine for laptops, but in the higher-end “workstation” market, the ability to upgrade and customize the configuration is very important. But a key factor in the performance of Apple’s ARM machines is the tight integration and doing away with expansion capabilities.

  3. Look at the build scripts for cross-platform open-source tools, and count the occurrences of things like “if(UNIX AND NOT APPLE)”.

  4. Apple seems to hate GPLv3. That’s why they dropped recent versions of bash. And also why they funded LLVM, so they could get away from GCC.

  5. The whole “Secure Boot” concept turns out to be a complete waste of time. When security holes are discovered in signed binaries (e.g. the Kaspersky one), they are supposed to go on a revocation list so that Windows PCs will no longer run those binaries. But it turns out Microsoft cannot actually issue such revocations, because those compromised binaries are in such widespread use that it would render large swathes of the entire Windows installed base unusable. Which would likely lead to a murderous customer mob storming the Redmond Bastille ...
