  1. Maybe Wayland is assuming a linear colour space. So the only need for colour calibration is at the physical display end (the Wayland server, e.g. Weston) and at the image input ends (image capture, scanners, cameras etc), and of course interpreting colour profiles attached to image data received from elsewhere (e.g. sRGB files). That seems to me to be the simplest way to think about things.
