  1. The US is not accustomed to simply participating in world events as just another player. It has to dominate and do things its way. And then, when this fails, as it did in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, it goes away, wrings its hands for a while, and then invents its own Hollywood fantasy history of how things should have played out, à la Rambo . And you know that Israel is absolutely not going to do the sensible thing that Fareed recommends. They are going to go into Gaza with all guns blazing, and there will be absolute carnage on both sides. They will kill lots of Palestinians, but they will not exterminate Hamas. And it could be that Tzahal takes the most major hit yet to its aura of invincibility.
