Civilized countries don’t consider it normal to have to buy bulletproof backpacks for your children, to try to ensure that they will survive their school years. Civilized countries don’t have regular drills in schools to teach the pupils how to survive an active-shooter situation. Civilized countries don’t try to coin terms like “crisis actors” and try to pretend that real-life tragedies are somehow fabricated just to make a political party look bad.

@johncole2744 Civilized countries don’t accept that living like they are in a war zone is normal. Places like Australia show that it is possible to pass measures that massively cut down the incidence of mass shootings. As they say, before you can fix a problem, you have to recognize that there is a problem.

@johncole2744 Massachusetts and Hawaii are better examples, because they are not surrounded by states with weaker gun laws. If a state like Illinois could control its borders, it wouldn’t have such a big gun problem. Australia has been doing fine. If it’s not a good example to follow, why are the gun nuts so scared of it?
