  1. She was all prepared to give up Star Trek after the first series, until she met Martin Luther King. I have seen interviews where she complained for years after that that the secondary characters were almost never given much more to do than their usual formulaic lines. All the character development, it seems, was reserved for Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley. And Shatner, in particular, had this tendency to sabotage scenes where the secondary characters had too much of a part to play. But she stayed on, for the sake of King.
